Majlis

A central feature of Qatari life, Majlis is a room near the entrance of the house where the natives meet to discuss the current affairs of the country and the world. It is a ‘male-only’ place (women meet inside the house), which is also the most decorated space in a house.

Cultivation of Dates

A date palm belongs to one of the oldest species of flora on the Arabian Peninsula. Even today it is one of the main fruit trees grown in Qatar, making it the sixteenth-largest date producer in the world. Dates are served alongside Arabic coffee as an expression of hospitality.

Bukhoor

Bukhoor is a type of incense available in Qatar. It is prepared by burning scented wood inside a ‘mabkhara’, which produces fragrant smoke. Guests are often invited to waft this smoke around themselves.

Dhow Boats

For many a century, Qatari natives used fishing, trading, and pearl diving to earn their livelihood. The traditional dhow boats played a major part in these activities. Don’t forget to go on a dhow cruise while you’re holidaying at a property such as Souq Waqif Boutique Hotels By Tivoli!
