Croatia is a country with every type of natural beauty you can imagine, but the Croatian waterfalls are particularly gorgeous. If you want to get the best Insta-worthy snap for your holiday collection or simply want to bask in stunning natural scenery, the amazing waterfalls in Croatia below belong on your travel itinerary. Mother Nature did herself proud!

Lika County

Plitvice Lakes Waterfalls

You’ll find countless waterfalls within Plitvice Lakes National Park, arguably the most famous national park in Croatia, but there are a few standouts!

Veliki Slap (Great Waterfall)

Plitvice Lakes National Park is a pretty gosh-dang-amazing spot to visit generally, but it is also home to the tallest of all Croatia waterfalls: Veliki Slap. Most people consider this the most beautiful of the waterfalls in Croatia.

There is plenty to see in and around Plitvice National Park, including some of the most beautiful Croatia lakes and waterfalls. You can enjoy a number of fun outdoorsy activities, too, such as nature walking, photography, hiking and swimming. In summer, you’ll have plentiful chances to soak up the sun. This world-famous Croatia falls park does get quite busy, however, so that’s something to bear in mind.

Waterfalls in Croatia - Waterfall in Rastoke, Croatia.

In the heart of the country you will find picturesque Slunj, and not too far away from there, at a point where the Slunjcica and Korana rivers join, you’ll discover Rastoke Waterfalls, easily one of the most scenic falls in Croatia.

The force of the water creates several pools, smaller falls, and even rapids, and it’s a definite picture point, for sure.

There are plenty of places to stay in and around the area, and some authentic and rustic guesthouses and restaurants, which allows you to head out and walk, hike, and generally, enjoy nature.

Dalmatia

Krka National Park Waterfalls

KRKA - Day Trip From Split

There are several waterfalls to enjoy at this national park in Croatia. Our faves are the following.

Skradinski Buk

Skradinski Buk is the largest waterfall on the beautiful River Krka, and it’s also got a huge natural pool that you can cool off in during the summer months! This spectacular series of cascades is one of the most famous and best waterfalls in Croatia. The waterfall sits at the end of the Krka, and there are plenty of facilities in and around the area, such as restaurants and shops.

You’re also very close to Skradin, so plenty of places to stay. This park has probably the greatest Croatia waterfalls near Split or Zadar, on the stunning Dalmatian coast. Again, you can expect crowds during the summer months.

Roski Slap

Another waterfall located on the River Krka, you’ll find Roski Slap in the very popular Krka National Park, meaning you can expect even more crowds when the weather is at its warmest.

In addition to the beautiful sight of the waterfall, you’ll also find historical monuments around the waterfall, mostly about the old process of milling wheat back in the day. Also, be sure to check out the cave over the waterfall.

Slap Krčić

If you like your Croatia falls to come with a story attached, Slap Krčić is for you! Located at the intersection between the River Krčić and the Krka, near Knin.

A fortress overlooked Krčić on the highest hill close by, there to protect the bridge. The story goes that eventually, the bridge will be rebuilt, but only when people stop fighting. We’re not sure when, but that’s the story!

Aside from the story, Slap Krčić is popular with locals during the summer months, thanks to the biking and hiking tracks in and around the area, and the shaded areas, ideal for getting away from the heat.

Other Dalmatian Waterfalls

  • Gubavica Vodopad
  • Manojlovački Slapovi

You’ll find locals heading to the spot during the summer months for a swim, and it’s one of the best-kept secrets of the Istria region.

Zarecki Kroc

Istria is hugely popular during the summer months in Croatia, so Zarecki Kroc is the ideal place to enjoy the weather! This is one of the largest waterfalls in the area and falls into a vast lake, which is around 10 meters deep.

You’ll also find a cave, which gives the waterfall a totally different look to the others we’ve mentioned.

Across The Border

Backpacking The Balkans - Štrbački Buk Bosnia

Not exactly IN Croatia, this charming waterfall is right on the border of Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, and well worth a trip if you love giant waterfalls.

Strbacki Buk

The premier natural attraction in Una National Park is Štrbački Buk, a collection of spectacular waterfalls and cascades in the Una River. This fantastic series of waterfalls and rapids is arguably also the most photogenic spot in the entire park—a major highlight that should by no means be missed.

Štrbački Buk is the tallest waterfall you can access in the Una national park. Standing tall at 24.5 meters, this fall will not disappoint.

While certainly not an exhaustive list of every waterfall in Croatia, these are some of the best, and indeed some of the most beautiful. If you were wondering where are the waterfalls in Croatia, this should answer it! Which one will you pick first?
